This image was taken last evening and despite being nowhere near the temperatures we had this past weekend, it ranked right up there with the most excruciating pain my hands ever experienced. Yesterday was much milder through the day so I got a bit complacent when I went out to shoot the sunset. I got safely pulled off into a snow pile along the road and then hiked across this farm field with camera, 2 lenses and tripod. I had a very thin pair of gloves on and till I was finished it was close to an hour standing out in the cold. I kept prolonging it because I wanted the interior lights to show up and I was too lazy to walk to my truck for better gloves. When I got back in my vehicle my hands hurt so bad I just sat there rocking in my seat fighting the pain. It was only 25 degrees but as soon as the sun went down you could feel the cold settling in.
Beautiful shot. The colors are incredible. You sure do go through a lot to get these shots.
I do have great patience and perseverance when I know the potential is there. At first I thought it was going to be awesome, then it faded and I waited a bit more and the color came back nicely.
Donald – When I go out there I have the same problem, as most of us do. I can’t change the camera settings with heavy gloves on. It just does not work well. Try & keep those hands & fingers warm.

I have a pair of thin ones with touch pads for the tablet, but when its cold they are not enough. I usually use hand warmers when its that cold.
Hope your handles feel better. It is a nice shot.
thanks Marland, much better now!
Great! “No pain no gain!: ?!? -)
The question is, will you remember or repeat this lapse again? Nice pics. I acquired some small hand warmers that easily tuck into my gloves that tuck into my gloves that really help, and are not that expensive.
oh I never learn! I do use hand/foot warmers when I expect to be out a while. This 15 minute shoot turned into an hour plus!
Beautiful shot, with the lights in the windows and that fabulous sky. But be careful! You don’t want to damage your hands.
that was the first time I had a tingling sensation after my hands had thawed.
THAT SKY !!
Definitely a calendar or card worthy! Take care out there.
I try too.
