Better Late than Never
This is a shot I took last Christmas and actually forgot to work on. So in the process of archiving files,I came across the almost forgotten shot. It was an involved shot and I almost dreaded working on it, but the owners were so nice the night I shot it, I felt compelled to finish it,even if it is several months late.

Dinosaurs at the Museum
A local museum is holding an exhibit on dinosaurs and they had two on display outside. They had a motion sensor which complicated things for me because I often shoot multiple exposures and visitors kept stopping and setting the thing in motion. It was very natural in the way it moved. The two versions shown were shot in infrared for the black and white version and color for the version where I lit everything with flash.

VW Classics
There was a small VW show not too far from home yesterday so I decided to venture out for an hour or so and check things out. I was immediately drawn to these cool VW classics, with their sleek lines, cool colors and unique design. If I had hit the lottery, I might just buy one because they really are the epitome of cool and laid back, but after talking to two owners, I realized there won’t be any sitting in my driveway anytime soon. I asked what would something like this sell for? I silently guessed maybe $40,000, and was quickly flabbergasted when one owner told me $125,000,and the other said $150,000 for theirs. I would have the thing roped off if it was mine, and the one owner told me they have had kids climb all over it at shows till they quickly tell the parents what its worth. they really do make a statement with their sweet style and design. Some had safari windows that are basically a flip out front windshield, which I was told were a necessity in south America where many of these originally were located. The safari window allowed air to blow through because it was like an oven inside.

Volleyball Transport
For me there is nothing more frustrating than seeing something photogenic and not being able to capture it. The image gets burned into my mind and the thought of missing it lingers. I was driving around looking for images and out of nowhere appears thirty or more Amish youth flying along on scooters like a motorcycle gang. Traffic was backed up and in the minute it took to turn around and try and get ahead of them, they had already split into three separate smaller groups taking different roads. I don’t think I have ever seen a group so large and unified on scooters before and probably never will again. This shot of the one girl hauling the volleyball net was all I could capture.

Sherwood Florist
This post is not really about photography but I figured I would share my latest creation that I did over the winter. We live along a rail trail and I decided to do something special for those who pass by our property, so I created what has affectionately become known to locals as the Gnome village. This latest building I made is a flower shop and was done without any plans and basically I just wing it as I go. I had the old scroll S on the front and after much contemplation, came up with Sherwood Florist as the name to go with it. The bottom photo shows the interior, which can be seen through the windows. Anyone on facebook can visit my personal gnome facebook site by searching Nibbles McGibbles, who is my alter ego I guess.
Easter Surprise
Drove around looking for spring photos the other day and was somewhat surprised to see Easter egg hunts being held at multiple one room Amish schools. For whatever reason I just never thought the Amish would take part in what I would call a secular tradition. I always say no matter how long I live in Amish country, I learn something new quite frequently. These boys are on their way home from the egg hunt and each has his own Easter basket or bucket.

Will You be Remembered?
According to the plaque that is affixed at the Major Dick Winters statue, “They are not dead who live in the hearts they leave behind”. This an old Tuscarora indian proverb, and kind of reminds me of how I feel sometimes. For some reason I always worried I would die one day and no one would ever remember me. I used to do public slide shows and at the beginning I would speak and usually mention I hoped folks would remember me as a great photographer. Seems kind of ridiculous to think that is my aspiration, but I would also always say why should I care when I am gone whether anyone remembers me or not. I am not sure where I ever got the idea that being remembered for that reason made sense but I do know several talented photographers that I look up to and even though their character is what makes them, their talent is always what sticks in my mind.

Trucking Towards Spring
This is one of the larger ice sculptures created for the Lititz fire and ice festival this year. It was a delightful 14 degrees when I arrived here at dawn and with winds around 15-20 mph, it was much colder with the wind chill. I was dressed to deal with it but even with hand warmers,my fingers were hurting pretty good because I cannot wear heavy gloves and still operate the camera. The camera batteries held up for about an hour till replacements were installed allowing me to continue shooting. This sculpture was done for a local car and truck dealership in town.
