1776 Flags

lititz-moravian-flags

Fourth of July found me sleeping in until my friend Morrie called to tell me about a wonderful display of flags in the town of Lititz. I quickly got dressed and headed there and was very impressed with the patriotic display that I found at the Moravian church in town.As I was snapping a few photos, the caretaker stopped to make sure the flags were not laying over and straighten those that needed attention, and he told me there were actually 1,776 flags meticulously lined up across the lawn. With his efforts and the help of local boy scouts, the scene was certainly worthy of photographing and a thank you to everyone who put forth the effort. When I first got there all I did was complain how breezy it was but after seeing how the flags were stretching out,I quickly was grateful for the breeze. Countless folks were snapping photos of this amazing scene.

Sweet Relief

dusty-mules

I spotted this group of what I think are mules in a field recently and as I was getting out of the car,the one decided to take a dirt bath, which might be for the flies?  This one mule did this three more times but the others lost interest after this initial shot and moved out of the photo. It was funny to see all the maneuvering on his back and the dust cloud it created.

Nova Scotia

nova-scotia-boats

Colorful fishing boats are lined up at the dock in this rural scene taken in Nova Scotia. The Church was the finishing touch to my composition on this dreary day.The one thing that still sticks in my mind is how friendly everyone was in Nova Scotia.I stopped a few places to shoot photos and folks who lived there would offer me the chance to roam around their property to get more shots. Some had little coves with boats and it was a very unique experience.

Triple Crown Of Cuteness

tiny-pony

This little guy is barely two feet tall and seems to be mimicking his mothers movements.Put a tiny saddle on him and find a monkey as a jockey and he could possibly win the triple crown for cuteness. Don’t let his small size fool you ,he is a little stick of dynamite just ready to explode across the pasture.

A Bridge To The Past

Once again I was lucky enough to hear about the E-M-F car club taking a road trip through my area. One of their stops included this location which includes a covered bridge and I was lucky enough to get this image featuring the red 1911 White parked in the foreground and the green 1909 Locomobile coming through the bridge. E-M-F vehicles are early 1900s vehicles built by Byron Everitt, William Metzger, and Walter Flanders. These unique vehicles are a treat to look at with all their detail and they harken back to a simpler time.

My Birdhouse Projects

I have been a bit slow on the photo front these days and part of that is trying to keep our property looking good. I spent some time building these posts and the birdhouses that are mounted on them. One is a regular little village for our feathered friends, and some birds have been checking it out, and the one with the fancy  black finials has no holes for birds to enter and is more decorative than functional and the black decoration around the copper pieces are actually dresser drawer handles that we had laying around.Making a round bird house is more tricky than the basic ones and I used funnels for the roof on those. Not really great photos, but I had fun building them and thought I would share the results.

Colter Bay

Sunset over Colter Bay in Wyoming features silhouetted trees and majestic mountains.I remember this day well because I left my Gitzo tripod sitting at a parking area and realized the mistake five miles down the road, and was doing over a hundred miles on hour on the highway to get back to it before it was taken. Amazingly enough it was still there.

Thunderstruck

Hoping I can find opportunities to capture the awesome power of Gods creation this summer storm season and also live to share the photos such as this shot I captured last summer. I will be using my tablet to fire the camera so I have no direct physical link with the camera.

Modes of Transport

This is an image from the past and includes an Amish buggy pausing to let a hot air balloon drift across the road in front off him.I apologize for my lack of posting recently but the stresses of life have taken the wind out of my sails right  now.

Front Row Seat

This Amish child is enjoying the best seat around as mom heads to the local store. I was parked at a store and saw them coming and managed to get this shot. The kid was waving as they came down the road but I have no idea who she was waving too.

Finicky Foxglove

The ever popular Foxglove has always been a rather frustrating flower for me to try and grow in my garden,so when I see displays like this,I just stand in awe. We tried several times to use them in the garden, but either they die off and never return or blow over and get destroyed. We staked them and tried a variety of ideas but finally gave up.Someday I hope to visit an area like the Cotswolds in England, where cottage gardening is an art form. This was at Longwood Gardens.

Take a Road Trip

fringed-tulips

If you love spring and you love flowers, now is the time to head to Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. I went this past friday and was just a touch early for the full tulip show, which will be amazing this week and next. Thousands of colorful blooms are set to dazzle the senses in this yearly spectacle which I find to be among the prettiest time of the year at Longwood. These tulips were blooming and caught my eye with their vivid color palette.

Feeding Trough Fiasco

goat-in-trough

The old goat seems to have decided he needs to not only eat some hay,but he also chose to take a siesta in the food trough while he was at it. The one young lamb seems to want to call him out on his rude behavior ,but after seeing the horns,he decided to just give him the stare down.It was a bit breezy this day,so maybe the trough gave a little wind relief.

Scooting into Spring

amish-scooter-trioThis trio of Amish girls were in perfect synchronization as they zipped down the road on a recent spring day.Looking at their baskets,I wondered if they might be one room school-house teachers on the way to school. They almost appear to be parked and talking but they were cruising and I was lucky to get a sharp shot with the telephoto.A few Amish even have battery-powered scooters that reach 20-30mph, and I found a place that sells them but amazingly they are almost a thousand dollars.

Blooming Magnolia

Magnolia trees begin bursting with color as spring arrives. This mausoleum is quite the final resting place for someone.A late spring freeze tonight threatens to ruin the magnolia blooms,at least the weather men are saying that today.

Happy Holi

This pair of images were taken at a festival held at a local park this weekend. It had to be the most colorful event I had ever seen, with folks showering each other with intensely colorful powder. On the way there my daughter tells me she is not putting any color on,but a minute after arriving, she starts begging me to join in,which we gladly obliged. It was my first introduction to the festival called Holi, and it was a very happy and fun time. A few folks seemed to want to color me,but thankfully they refrained because of the camera I was holding. I had to keep my distance to keep the camera safe, but I thought this pair of images would give you some idea of the event.

Holi is a spring festival also known as the festival of colors and the festival of love.It is an ancient Hindu religious festival which has become popular with non Hindus in many parts of South Asia and beyond. It is primarily observed in India, Nepal and other regions of the world with significant populations of Hindus or people of Indian origin. The festival has in recent times spread to Europe and North America as a spring celebration of love, frolic and colors.
