This family literally came walking right out of a cornfield that was right beside me on a back road as I was photographing a one room school. I waited till they were a little farther away to snap a few images but the little guy in the wagon still noticed my camera. This was a sunday morning and they were headed to a local farm up the road for worship services.

I so appreciate the way in which u approach ur subjects! (am sure they do too) This pic is so precious- ty for all ur shares!!
Thanks Sylvia
What grabbed me immediately in this photograph was the depressing contrast between the barefoot women and children against the men wearing dress shoes. One feels—or at least I do—like jumping into the image carrying a metal baseball bat and beating the living daylights out of those despicable bullies.
Not knowing enough about the traditions of the Amish leaves me incapable of addressing your point.I do know know that many times Both sexes go barefoot,so I think they might choose to go that way? I was just at an Amish farm that has a business dealing in old rusty metal and they were all walking barefoot around rusted and jagged pieces. It sent shivers down my back but their soles are probably like leather for all I know.
Wonderful chance encounter.
Would have to agree on that.
You’ll notice the mother’s wearing shoes as well. It was very common during the past for children to go barefoot until coming of age when their feet stopped growing. I know from experience most kids would go barefoot all year if they could – Amish parents just don’t force their children to wear shoes like most parents would in the US.
I learn something new every day
