Elegant Beauty

This pair of shots was taken at the same location looking opposite directions on a calm Sunday morning. I was hoping for a buggy to come by to get in the shot but after an hour of waiting,it simply was not meant to be on this particular day. The Victorian home in the top shot is full of beautiful details and the wrap around porch is in a class all its own. They just do not make them like that anymore.

Stately Hydrangea

Yet another evening finds me shooting this pink hydrangea growing in front of this elegant old home.Interior lights add that special warmth that emanates outward making for a very inviting home. Again, simply knocking and asking nicely was all it took to get some lights turned on,which really helps to make the shot shine.

Hydrangea Fever

This is the fourth hydrangea I shot in the last month and they are starting to slowly fade but they are just so appealing with their pastel hues. This image was taken just a stones throw away from the shot I posted yesterday and I noticed it as I was going to the house I shot first to let them know the image was going on my site. This property had a couple challenges to overcome like a kids swing set, which is hidden behind the plant. Choosing a wide-angle allowed me to use the flowers as cover for the swing set. I also have my tripod about a foot off the road and thankfully there was no distracted drivers to run me over here. Again,a nice home owner turned some lights on for me to help get my signature look that I go for in these shots.

Come Sit A Spell

This inviting porch and gorgeous hydrangea in the foreground made for a wonderful summer image in rural Lancaster county. The owners were gracious enough to let me walk around the yard and add some light to liven things up. My tripod was literally a foot and a half off the road here and cars were flying by so I had to stay on my toes.

Fairy Festival1

Took my wife and daughter to my first ever fairy festival this spring and the coming week or two will feature photos I shot while strolling around. It was a very magical event with many interesting characters walking around. If these photos intrigue you at all, go on YouTube and look up Elfia fantasy festival in the Netherlands and you will see some mind-blowing outfits.

Heritage Days4

This Amish father and his five sons caught my eye as they headed home from heritage days. All the boys were dressed identical in blue and the view from the side was amazing but right after I snapped this shot at the stop sign, they turned right and I passed them to go further up the road to try for my dream shot of them. I went about a quarter-mile ahead, found an empty parking lot with bushes to kind of hide my truck a bit and focused in anticipation out my window. After two minutes I realized they went in the lane at the farm right after the stop sign so this image is all I got.

Heritage Days3

I got a mixed bag of looks from this Amish group as they headed into town to enjoy heritage days. One smiled and waved and the one on the right kind of gave me the stare down from this rather fancy carriage.

All Decked Out

The fourth of July is a time to reflect,as well as a time to enjoy with family and friends, and one local town near me does its best to celebrate in grand fashion. That town is Lititz,Pa and it seems everyone gets into the patriotic spirit in town as the old red, white and blue proudly waves all over town. Most photos shown are from the Moravian church that has made a tradition of placing thousands of flags across the grounds in neatly lined rows, and the rest include a funeral home done very tastefully and a flag lined main thoroughfare.

Heritage Days

One local community in Amish country holds what is called heritage days every year in the towns park and I usually drive around the area trying to get images of folks heading to the event. You would never know it by this image but it was getting very late and was very dark when I saw this scene coming together and it forced me to shoot at 2000 iso almost wide open. It is kinda noisy in a large version but still I loved the girls waving to the guys coming up the road as they headed to heritage days.

Always Busy

Wether you are working the fields or delivering a piece of furniture, there is always something to be done in Amish country. I believe the desk was recently completed for delivery after I saw it come out the lane of a furniture shop. I basically drove ahead and hoped it would pass me and with a little luck,it went by just as the guy turned around in the field.

Redneck Amish

I had to hit the brakes as I passed this buggy maker in rural Lancaster county after I noticed the redneck decal on the front. Just when I think I have seen everything, I find something that reminds me I have not. The buggy is waiting for its last front wheel to be put on and then I might see it on the road during my travels.

Heading to the Swimming Hole

This is one of those moments that gets me excited about being a photographer and getting the chance to capture those little glimpses into Amish life here in Lancaster county. I was headed down this back road and way in the distance I saw some sort of strange convoy of sorts and not knowing what it was yet,I pulled over and waited with camera in hand just in case. About a hundred yards away I realized it was a group of Amish kids with all their swimming apparatus along and they were zipping along so I am lucky to get this shot. They had tubes, towels, floaties and even a beach chair in the back, which Made the near 100 degree day bearable. I have no idea if they have swim suits or just go in like they are shown but they all smiled at me as they passed me.

Evening Skies

A nice night in Amish country included these neat clouds. I had high hopes for a spectacular sunset because I was sure the setting sun was going to light the sky up,but the sun went behind a cloud bank just when it was getting to the horizon and it fizzled real fast.

Sunset Plowing

The sun was about as bright and glaring as it could have been for this attempt at a silhouetted farmer at work. The situation was complicated by the fact that the lens I used is extremely susceptible to flare and it was a nightmare trying to get this.

Play Time

This late evening shot includes three siblings with their chosen means of transportation. It was very dark when I shot this and the depth of field is minimal but at least the boy in the center is in focus. I got about five shots taken before the family dog came to let me know its time to move on. I have no idea what kind of dog this is but he looked a little demonic with those eyes.
